A great blue heron snags lunch

Another photo from Sweetwater wetlands. The park reemphasized how important birding at the golden hour is. Of course the golden hour applies to all animals not just birds. Almost all of the birds in the park were feeding in one way or another. The herons were spearing fish and the spoonbills were shoveling food out of the mudflats. The ospreys were totally amazing as they would climb high over the pond and then dive into the water from up above somehow avoiding the alligators and then take flight with huge fish in their talons. Pictures of the ospreys are forth coming as I comb through the photos. Imagine for a moment what it must have been like to see Florida at its finest before we started destroying the land to build housing developments etc. You would have seen these type of activities on a grander scale. BTW, my editor in chief returns tomorrow, yeah!
