A black phoebe and a run of bad luck with very cold weather
The black phoebe is a type of flycatcher. Flycatchers are beautiful little birds and seem to be posing for you everytime you see them. They usually sit on low perches scanning for insects so when you understand this, then it's no wonder they always seem to be posing. I'm currently having trouble being able to go birding or anything else for that matter. We've had multiple cold fronts with severe weather and a bunch of snow and some very low temperatures (even down to single digits). Living on what's called Albuquerque's westside, we typically don't get as much snow as do the Sandia Mountains, which border the northwest side of the city, because of the difference in altitude. But in the course of the last week or so, we've had several days with multiple snow events exceeding several inches on each occasion. The last thing you want to do is walk around with an expensive camera and lens and risk slipping on ice.
