A black phoebe tries to steal the show but a white-breasted nuthatch intervenes. The mother owl asleep at the wheel, not.

This morning was a 'light limited' morning. The sun was out for a very brief period of time, about 45 minutes at most, then snuck behind some clouds and remained there. Cindy and I were taking pictures of owls and looking for the owlets (which I understand are periodically out now) but the owlets remained hidden from view this morning. We might go back tonight depending on weather status. The sun had disappeared behind the clouds and I was about to pack it in when this beautiful black phoebe appeared in front of me. Black phoebes are a type of flycatcher and seem to be abundant all over Albuquerque. Flycatchers are one of my favorite birds to photograph. They are usually perched on branches in low areas scanning for insects.   Finishing up, I saw a white-breasted nuthatch out of the corner of my eye. I turned the tripod around and watched the little guy as he hopped around on the ground, apparently looking for nesting material. Nuthatches are very common in the open space area...
