Bird of the day, a great blue heron
This morning you had to get out early as there are very high winds expected this afternoon (in excess of 20 mph) and Albuquerque will be the great dust bowl. Approaching the 1.0 mile turnaround point on my birding adventure, I could see the shadow of the heron. Once again I was in a bad position, being directly behind the bird and looking into the sun. I slowly made my way around to where I would be in front of the bird, being careful not to make a bunch of noise. The forest floor is still covered with dry leaves and branches so walking quietly is a challenge and I'm not a light walker to begin with. I've switched the format of the pictures in the camera from jpeg to raw. So far I've been hesitant to do that as I end up having to convert them to jpeg to post the pictures in most cases. I haven't had much success shooting in the raw format either, but raw is the professional photographers' format of choice.
